Description

GODS, why did I stop fiddling with my pony OC in MLP style?

Alright, I wanted to do a breed sheet for the Paisleys and this is going to be part of it. Ukulele Moon in her updated colors. No medieval Ukulele because this is the MLP "Cannon" style.

I was trying to think of different ways to set the Paisleys apart from the rest of Equestria. Think of Paisley kind of like Australia. The ponies on this Island developed much differently because of isolation (before it became a tourist trap.)

This is intended to be a "powered-up" form of Ukulele, perhaps having an interaction with Pele and actually having some kind of unicorn magic. The palette is based on the Version 3.0 Ukulele found here the next level... I also saw a great HaRPG breed named Tintenwolke-Horse and asked the gracious creator of the breed Kawisaurus if it would be alright if I based the mane of the Paisleys on the same idea. I wanted the manes and tails to look like lava which fits a tropical pony. They'd probably flow a lot like the the alicorn Princesses we've known so much about.

I was going to give her a fang but it didn't look good on the base. Paisleys have canines because they EAT MEAT. Yup, not other ponies or anything like the Zenyus, just fish. Usually prepared as sushi. The reasoning behind this is there was once not enough vegetation on the island to support them so they evolved to be able to eat fish as well as the strange fruits that morphed their coats. They learned how to fish by watching the sacred Pink dolphins that were created by the Goddess Pele. The pink dolphins are also companions to some Paisley fisherman.

I'm planning on having Ukulele's old coat color and eye color change significantly when she has an interaction with Pele in Paisley Tales. Old coat color is still relevant and good for either interpretation of her. I was also playing with the idea that the Paisleys may have scaley coats with some fur, feeling of velvet. Was going for a Marine Iguana idea from the Galapagos island.

I wanted to keep her bangs too. I tried a few hair styles, but I love bangs. I have some bangs myself and I'd like to keep her looking original (not a Twi recolor as much) but also somewhat familiar. I think she's grown past this. Oh for crying out loud, if Moondancer wasn't a gigantic recolor, but I digress... :)

firstly, apologies for the latency of this critique from the original upload date; life is crazy.

now, onto the critique. i guess this is a tradition now. oh well, i'm not complaining.

anyways, you've taken another good step in Ukulele's design. she's taken another turn away from the traditional unicorn, which is ok because her new design is still pleasing to the eye. you've taken her to a more canon-like style and have added onto her backstory. Her backstory fits well with her design, as always, with her being an island pony and having island-y colors. the paisley pattern is still nice and muted, not distracting from the rest of her design. i still love those colors together; very very nice combination <3

in her description, you talked about your inspiration for the mane and tail to be like lava, and also inspired by the Tintenwolke breed. however, when i look at the tintenwolkes, their manes remind me of mist, rather than lava. a nice style, none the less, but if you want people to think lava with the man and tail, you might need to go with something more "gooey" looking. something flowy; maybe even with little rocks in it (like cooled pieces of lava!). it can even glow warmly like flowing magma. here's some good inspiration: www.kalapanaculturaltours.com/…
one of my few problems with the mane and tail though is that they look a little too messy, i would say, mainly on the tail. the stripes in the tail are hidden by the darker fuchsia. make them a little more prominent, so they pop! you can keep the dark fuchsia, but make sure it doesn't obscure the other colors

Her new cutiemark looks very nice. Cerulean-Wings did a very nice job designing one for you. although you would think it would be out of place with the colors, it actually works very well. i would place it slightly lower on the flank though, just a nit pick really. her hooves are nicely done, but next time, i suggest making the stroke color a darker version of the hoof color so that it works a little better with the hooves instead of looking a tad off

over all, Ukulele Moon has progressed greatly since her first version. i'm so happy to see you distance her so far from her older recolor form. can't wait to see more <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/t/t…" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="262" title="Thumbs Up"/>
