▂▃▅▇█▓▒░۩۞۩ Description of this Artwork  ۩۞۩░▒▓█▇▅▃▂

“When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk: he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes. ” ― William ShakespeareHenry V

:iconukulelemoon::iconsaysplz: This is yet another tribute to an inspiration of mine in the artistic community. Though long gone, Sir John Tenniel shall be remembered as the original illustrator of 'Alice in Wonderland.' He brought the madness of Lewis Carol's dream into the eyes and minds of readers young and old.

'The Madness of Queen Maple' is another take on his styling of artwork.  She's supposed to be a horse/donkey thing that has been made anthro. Exaggerated features such as enlarged eyes, smaller than normal donkey ears, a crazy mane and of course, that weird looking nose with just a hint of rose color to it are supposed to make you stop and stare at this work. It doesn't hold a candlestick to the lithographic artists of yore, but it does have some appeal. If you check out the link below, you can see more of Sir John Tenniel's work and appreciate what he was trying to convey during a time when these ideas and concepts were new.

A time without Tim Burton. Indeed, Lewis Carol was the Tim Burton of his time.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."

"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.

"You must be," said the Cat, "otherwise you wouldn't have come here."

Alice didn't think that proved it at all: however she went on. "And how do you know that you're mad?"

"To begin with," said the Cat, "a dog's not mad. You grant that?"

"I suppose so," said Alice

"Well, then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad."

"I call it purring, not growling," said Alice."Call it what you like," said the Cat. - from Lewis Carol's 'Alice in Wonderland'

Well, this is my first time writing a critique, so bear with me. This is a pretty well done piece. Horses are one of the hardest things to draw, taking this in to consideration you did really good. A few things could make this an even better piece. I would advise looking at some diagrams of horses to help you with the proportions. The head looks a tad bit to big, and the neck needs to be a bit thicker. Other than that, you did great! I love the color choice with the background. The reds and whites really make the grays and blacks stand out. I would love to see more pieces like this from you!
