▂▃▅▇█▓▒░۩۞۩ Description of this Artwork ۩۞۩░▒▓█▇▅▃▂
“Those who wish to seek out the cause of miracles and to understand the things of nature as philosophers, and not to stare at them in astonishment like fools, are soon considered heretical and impious, and proclaimed as such by those whom the mob adores as the interpreters of nature and the gods. For these men know that, once ignorance is put aside, that wonderment would be taken away, which is the only means by which their authority is preserved.”
― Baruch Spinoza, Ethics
I was looking at a Creative Commons photograph of an old statue when I came up with the idea for this little beauty. I began drawing this as if almost in a trance. I am still working on my proportions for human anatomy and the statue seemed to be a good way to express that desire.
The Gods remember when they were loved, cherished.
They remember the sacrifices, the wars, the passion of those temples.
Whose bright fires were skin to the flames within the human heart.
The Gods remember all that were forgotten.
They mourn for us.
They beckon us.
This piece was done in honor of Samhain which is the Pagan spiritual celebration of Halloween. It's a bit different than most holidays but reminiscent of the Spanish Day of the Dead. It's my favorite holiday.
What I like personally about this piece: I love the message behind this piece. I hope you do too.
What I don’t like about this piece: The pentacle looks goofy! I screwed up the lips, nose and the eyes look vacant. It's a step in the right direction as far as practice is concerned.
Genre of Artwork: Digital Painting
