Digital Painting: Our Greatest Regrets

I hope this story behind this picture doesn't sound too much of a 'tin foil hat' idea or concept. It's only my belief and opinion and not meant to offend any one.

The Buddha and all of the other Gods were advanced beings. They created the universe and alternate dimensions. They lived in the same dimension as us for a while which is why we have them in historical records. They weren't immortal as we think of it, just reincarnated and able to remember their last regeneration. Kind of like the Doctor does in 'Doctor Who.' At the end of their cycle, they left this dimension. Some of them, like Buddha, tried to bring others as close to this next stage of evolution as possible. They weren't able to enlighten everyone and their mysteries were lost to time. 

In this picture, Buddha is nearing regeneration to the next plane and contemplating His time on this plane of existence. There is a sadness and a wanting in this picture that I was trying to capture. This was all based on a dream I had and I wanted to paint it so I could not only remember this idea later but also to share it with all of you. Many references used to complete this picture. I especially like the bronze tones against the bright blue background that makes Buddha look fluid yet like a statue. The fading into a statue concept is like a God fading into mythology and becoming unreal. I also like his bright red jewel. I wasn't originally going to paint it such a bright color but I think it really added the contrast I was after. 

Like I said, just my idea. Not preaching to anyone or saying my way is the only way.
